Festival of vintage and classic cars August 28th

Just some of the amazing and historic cars that drove up last Sunday: De Dion Bouton 1902 still owned and driven by the family who bought it originally, Austin 7 Ruby 1935, MG K33001 driven by Earl Howe in the 1933 Mille Miglia and The Grand Prix Historique Monaco 2008 & 2010, MG TA 1936, another 1954 like my very first car, 1951 Rolls Royce Herse, 1934 Talbot 105, 1929Rolls Royce with its luggage and many other fascinating cars. We plan the same again for August Bank Holiday sunday 2012. Please come along and bring your special car.

Shakespeare in the garden August 18th

This year The Festival Players performed The taming of the Shrew. They have been coming to Langar in August for almost 20 years. Some people bring delicious picnics, others have sunday lunch in the restaurant. Cornetto ice creams in the interval. Its a great day out.

Whiskey Tasting Monday 8th August

Off to The Malmaison Hotel Birmingham for fabulous whiskey training and tasting. Well, someone has to do this job ! Kai Reeves if Whyte & Mackay led us though the history and some very different interesting whiskeys. Japanese, Canadian, American, Irish and those wonderful Highland and Lowland Scottish favorites. Finally their Dalmore Aurora, a heavenly 45 year old single Highland malt whiskey. No we don't stock that rarity yet but we sell plenty of Taliskar, Oban, Dalwhinnie, Laphroig, Glenmorangie and all those other lovely night caps.

Grandson and friend helping out in the kitchen

My grand son Alfie and his friend Ben gave up a days fishing to help out in the kitchen when the Kitchen porter was on holiday. Ben wants to be a chef and I want Alfie in the dining room.
The chefs are delighted to have their help as they worked very hard.

Hedge hog

This little hedgehog lives outside the kitchen under the hop leaves. It is quite tame, sometimes running round the house to the patio where it amuses the guests as they enjoy a pre dinner drink. It likes the cat food and we are hoping it will get fat to survive the winter.

Stag Party

Stag party on a balmy July evening. I did not stay to the end but I liked having my picture taken with all those nice young men. I'm the small one with the moustache standing next to the groom's father who did not have to wear a wig.

Dredging the medieval moats. A once in a life time project.

Chefs came down to watch the muddy excitement
Water came in overnight. Just a start.

The arm of the moat all dried up before dredging
Old tree home of owls.

Woolsthorpe Manor. Birthplace & home of Isaac Newton.

Just half an hour from Langar is this National Trust property. A 17th century farm house where Isaac Newton was born and brought up. The apple tree is still there and the house gives the impression of how life was for him on the farm. He did not like looking after the sheep. This modest place is an inspiration and I hope you will find time to visit it when you stay at Langar Hall.
