Alastair Sawday's special places to stay. Best English Hotel award 2015
At the end of an avenue of lime trees you will find the other World of Langar Hall. This unique country house hotel and restuarant in the Vale of Belvoir is just 12 miles from the city of Nottingham. Langar Hall is a true original - stubbornly English, deliciously stylish and quietly eccentric.

Imogen Skirving’s family has owned this blush-coloured country house since 1860, and she can talk you through every architectural detail. She will also be the person taking your food order and purring approvingly should you choose Langar lamb and cumin gnocchi. Cartland — named after the romantic novelist Barbara — is the most stylish of the 12 bedrooms. Downstairs, the designer, knight of the realm and Langar fan Paul Smith has sprinkled fairy dust across the public rooms.

Food and Travel Awards 2014
Langar Hall did not win the Best Rural Hotel this year but we won last year and are happy to have been nominated as one of the four best in Britain. Amazing! We had a great night out at the Mandarin Oriental where we made friends and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
