Sunday March 28th. British Summer Time. My friends and customers Mr & Mrs Bowen brought their lovely car out for lunch. A very unusual, exceptionally pretty car with an amazing history. Bently 1931. Bodied by Barker of Kensington the first model with a 'fast back'. A show stopper at the Paris salon d'automobiles 1931, photographed in all the fashionable magazines. Exhibited again in December 1931 at tge Olympia British motor show on the Barker stand. It was bought by Mr J.F. Kruse, one of the owners of the Daily Mail who drove it regularly to the Daily Mail offices in Paris and for this it was fitted with miles and kilometres as well as gallons and litres.

The next owner The Marquis of Portago, a Spanish aristocratis actor and polo player. Then Captain Drummond of Drummonds bank and so on through a list of glittering owners. The present owner would be delighted to give you full details. Telephone me and I will put you in touch with him if you are interested.

Paul Smith's blog never advertises his own shops. I can't resist this picture of a customer whose wife went shopping at Willoughby House Nottingham and came back laden with those colourful stipey bags and this toweling dressing gown handsomely modeled in the bar before dinner.

Here is a special birthday cake made by Nick who comes to work at 6.30am to cook breakfast, make bread, biscuits and cakes before the other chefs join him to cook and serve lunch.

visit of American travel writers March 24th

The nicest thing about running a hotel and restaurant is all the interesting people you meet. This afternoon a group of charming enthusiastic appreciative American travel journalists checked in after a morning at Rufford Park learning archery with long bows. They were in Nottingham to write about the new Robin Hood film to be shown May 14th. Where did Russel Crowe stay when he was filming? I never heard about any filming round here!! That's the not so good thing about the hotel and restaurant business.....we never get out and don't know what is going on!

Sunday March 21st. The first day of Spring brought our

first spring wedding. Not the best photograph! I missed

the photo shoot and just got the bride and groom as they

were getting cold and longing to go in for champagne and

supper.

A ladies lunch club invited 'Hats on Heads' to display

their colourful creations. 'Absolutely fabulous' we cried

as we tried them on one by one.

There were also hat boxes with all the ingredients to create your own head decorations. Special hats for special occasions.

Sunshine, lambs, aconites, snowdrops, early crocus makes everyone feel good and happy. Customers enjoying lunch in the garden room where the heat comes up from the floor and the sun shines down through the windows.

Happy to be back at Langar and lucky too. I was smuggled onto the return flight without a ticket. A scary experience. While I was enjoying the sun sea and sand everything at Langar ran smoothly. A whole weekend of Valentine celebrations, family parties and plenty of customers coming to enjoy lunch for less and the sunday/monday great value dinner menu. This kept everyone busy in the usually quiet time after Christmas.

Now its time for decorating some rooms, staircase, perhaps a new carpets for the dining room. And planning summer events, writing the newsletter thinking of spring menus and all those meetings. More later.
